Maybe you don't like to write. Or perhaps you think you're no good at it. It could be that you're too busy to sit down and write say, an effective sales or fundraising letter, although you know your business or nonprofit depends on it.

Or maybe you do like to write, but what you've written so far sounds dull and uninspired to you. It doesn't truly express you or your organization's unique product, service, or identity. You know that your potential customers or supporters are already awash in "professional-sounding" (read: sterile) marketing messages online and off, so you want to stand out.

Perhaps promoting yourself or your business is what's most difficult for you. "Marketing" puts a bad taste in your mouth. You want to attract clients or donors, but without resorting to the "hard sell." You need to eat, but without succumbing to dog-eat-dog tactics.

So what have I done (besides shimmer)? As long as I can remember, I have been passionate about writing. I earned my B.A. in English from Berea College, won writing awards, helped edit a national professional association's newsletter, wrote articles for and helped edit the magazine of a national progressive nonprofit, and enjoyed being chief writer for a creative marketing company.
