Seven Easy Steps to a New WebsiteGetting a website is a relatively simple process. Your new site can usually be online in less than a month. I'll explain each step in detail below, but in a nutshell, this is what's involved:
step 1: preliminary considerationsYou'll want to give a little thought to a few things:
If you're unsure about what to do about these, please get in touch with me, & together we'll explore all the options. My aim is to make the process of creating your new website as simple as possible for you, and I'm always glad to offer suggestions & brainstorm solutions. You might also find it helpful to look at other websites, gathering notes about what you like and dislike about them. step 2: website designThe second step on the path to a new website is the design. This is where Quanta Webdesign comes in. I'll consult with you about your goals and preferences with regard to your new website. If there are any photos, logos, or other graphics which must be incorporated into the site's design, you'll want to send them to me. A deposit of approximately fifty-percent of the estimated total cost of the website is due at this point. This payment covers the visual design stage of the site. Based on the preferences you've communicated to me, and any images you've provided, I'll begin to create two proposed designs for your site. Your new website will be unique, custom designed to satisfy your individual needs and tastes. step 3: choose a design & provide contentAbout 10-14 business days after our initial consultation, I'll send two proposed designs for your site, from which you can choose. (These designs can also be slightly modified if necessary.)When we've agreed upon a final design, work on the site as a whole will begin. At this point, if you haven't already done it, you should send me the complete content for your site, the files and text which you would like to include on your webpages. These can be sent to me via email attachment, by FTP, or on disk. Ideally, the written content for your webpages should be submitted as a Word (.doc) or text (.txt) file. Images should be .jpg, .jpeg, or .gif. If your files are in some other format, please let me know, we can undoubtedly find a solution. step 4: register your domain nameAfter you've decided on a name for your website, you need to register it to make it your own. There is a yearly fee for domain name registration but it's only a few dollars. To quickly check the availability of the domain name you have in mind (and to register it, if you wish), click here. You can register the domain name yourself, or I can do it for you. step 5: get a webhostYour website's files need to be stored on a web server, a powerful computer which is constantly connected to the internet.Quanta Webdesign offers web hosting for our clients; you are also welcome to use a hosting company of your choice. I'd be glad to advise you on the options. Please email me with any questions. steps 6 & 7: approve the final website
When I've finished building your website (usually within about 2-4 weeks of our initial consultation), I'll submit it to you for your approval. After that, I'll upload the website to your webhost's servers, and the site will be online, viewable by people worldwide!
