Websafe & Other Colors for the Internet

Web-safe color palette:

The 256 colors below are "web-safe," meaning that they are viewable as intended by virtually every monitor and browser in use. Each color in the web-safe palette below is represented by a hexidecimal value, a combination of the values 00, 33, 66, 99, cc, & ff.

Other colors:

Countless other colors are also available. Modern monitors (which display millions of colors) will display these other colors as intended. When viewed on very old monitors, the colors may shift slightly. In that case the color in question will usually display as the nearest web-safe color.

Note: The chart below is dynamically generated by javascript. If you can't see the chart, please enable javascript on your machine, or email me.

Color Blender:

This groovy little tool blends two specified colors, outputting a range of colors midway between the two. Just input two hexadecimal color values (such as the ones in the chart above) and the number of midpoints you'd like to see, then press 'go' to see the range of blended colors.

The number of midpoints must be from 1 to 10. Entering "1" in the midpoints field will give you the color halfway between the two you enter. For example, entering 000000 (black) and ffffff (white) and a midpoint of "1" will give you a grey, halfway between pure black and pure white. If using more than one midpoint, you'll get a range of greys.

Most of the resulting colors will not be websafe; they will fall into the larger category, "millions of colors," as explained above.

I hope you have fun playing with this fun tool!
